Like most Americans growing up in the Midwest, I was never exposed to the delicious treat that is "curries". Beef, chicken, pork, fish, and veggie curries have all been relatively new to me. Yes, your kitchen and clothes will smell of very potent exotic spices, but it's going to be SO worth it in the end!
